ABOUT ME
Allow me to introduce myself...
The goal of our clinic is to provide high quality relationship-based healthcare.
The starting point of any relationship is getting to know one another. With that in mind, I thought that I should share a little of my story.

I am originally from the Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The son of a teacher and a radiotherapist, I am the eldest of 3 brothers.
Inverness was an idyllic place to grow up. I am not sure whether it was more Huckleberry Finn or Swallows & Amazons but suffice to say we spent a significant amount of time on hills, in lochs and on riverbanks! These adventures have fostered in me a life long love of wild places and of a horizon broken by hills.
Another major passion in my life has been reading. I simply love books. Exposure to literature from an early age has proven a lifelong gift to me educationally. As a bookish sort in my local State School, I found that I had an interest in, and aptitude for, science. This interest in science, combined with my interest in people and their stories, made Medicine a natural fit when I went to university.
My Medical Degree was split between St. Andrews and Edinburgh universities. The former offered a very solid, traditional grounding in the basic medical sciences, the latter built clinical knowledge on these strong foundations.
Following graduation I undertook my 2 year Foundation Programme and 3 year GP Training Programme in the competitive South East Scotland Deanery.
My hospital training included posts in Respiratory Medicine, General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Practice and Psychiatry.
I chose Medicine because I liked science and wanted to help people; because I was interested in their stories. I fell in love with General Practice because of variety. Variety between patients, their diagnoses and their stories.
I have been a GP Partner in a busy NHS practice since 2010. I thoroughly enjoy the variety of General Practice and the opportunity it provides to form meaningful therapeutic relationships with patients over time.
I am additionally a GP Appraiser for NHS Fife. This role involves helping fellow GP colleagues get the most out of their own professional development.
I have established The Heriot Clinic as I want to be able to offer a higher standard of care to smaller group of patients. I want to provide longer appointments and continuity of access to the same doctor.
Outside of Medicine, I am a father of 3 children that are, each in their way, forces of nature! My wife and I take great pleasure in the splendid chaos of family life, the achievements of our children and the stories they come home with.
Outside of Medicine, my passions remain those I started out with; spending days in the wild places and nose deep in a book whenever the opportunity presents itself.
It would be my privilege to get to know you over time, to hear your stories and to help you navigate the healthcare landscape.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
